  • Just Pray About It: How to Respond to the Black Church in the Face of Mental Illness - $459.00

5 hours

There is a stigma of mental illness in the Black community. Black people are taught to cast their burdens on God and to pray their problems away. This strategy works for many, and church is a place of refuge; however, what happens when the church is not educated on mental illness or doesn’t believe in it? How do we break the silence? How do professionals respect individuals’ beliefs while providing much needed referral and treatment? This training will answer these questions and teach key strategies for respectfully and appropriately demystifying mental health issues in the Black church community (members and leaders) and how to adequately approach referral and treatment in the face of religious uncertainty. Reference: Faye, A. (2017). Just pray about it: Ignoring mental health is killing black youth. Robust Blog.
